Tie Blog 2

These are examples of sample student work.  These came from the students top tab booklets that they made after the lesson was taught over the Coastal Plains and sub-regions.  The Technology lesson plan was a challenge for me to complete but I was able to pull through and get things done.  The students really liked being able to type out their questions and responses in the Voice Thread.  My ct wants them to gain a better understanding of using a keyboard and typing in complete sentences versus using shortened responses for example "bc" for because. We have both noticed that many of the students that have the luxury of computers and cell phones have used this in their writing and even more so when typing things out.  I really liked how the students cane up with their own questions to ask each other and even more so their responses.  By doing my voicethread this way it made it into a threaded discussion.  I would have liked to change the amount of time it took to explain and introduce the use of voice thread to the students.  Many of them had not been exposed to a voice thread so it did consume much of my lesson time.

Questions to my peers: What could i do to modify this lesson for lower grade levels and higher grade levels?

How can incorporate other subjects within a social studies lesson such as this one?

  1. 1.) For lower grade levels, you could have them talk about the different regions instead of typing. For higher grade levels, you could have the students type out their answers and then talk on voice thread in a more in depth explanation of each region and their characteristics.
2.) You could integrate Writing and Reading in this lesson. You also have Geography tied in with this lesson with the whereabouts of these regions are located throughout Texas. You might also be able to include science with having students study the different elements that make up a certain region and the defintion of why it is called a certain region because of the items that are there.
I thought your voice thread was interactive and looks like your students learned alot out of this lesson. Great job Amanda on your documents as well!!

  2. Maybe to modify it for a higher grade level, you could only have the students create all the questions and answer them. This could help develop their interpersonal skills. For a lower grade level, maybe you could add images with a question in text as well as voice that they could comment on.

  3. Awesome VoiceThread!! Love the song used for your lesson.

To modify the VoiceThread for a higher grade level, maybe you can talk more about the region: what they cultivate, etc. Or maybe create an advertisement. For lower levels, maybe talking about the images for each region.
